Chili Cook-Off
It is time to find that chili pot and begin preparations for the
4th annual Warroad Area Chamber of Commerce Chili Cook Off.
The first 10 teams to enter by June 15, 2008 will receive a $20 gift
card from Doug's Supermarket to purchase their secret ingredients
that will make their chili this year's winner. Organizer Keith
Cumming looks forward to another great cook-off and invites
families, co-workers, friends, church groups, or your buddies from
deer camp to join in the fun. Last year the crowd really
enjoyed the Showmanship portion of the competition, which is where
the teams dress up and decorate their booths in a theme.

The Roseau and Warroad Fire Departments compete head-on -- last year
fire-fighter Craig McMillan lost a little hair as a result of
Roseau's defeat in 2006; however, RFD came out on top in 2007 so
we'll see what antics the guys will come up with this year.

CHILI
PREPARATION RULES
- All chili must be cooked from
scratch on site the day of the cook-off. All chili must be prepared
in the open (no cooking in motor homes, etc.). Typically propane or
camp stoves are used. No electricity will be provided.
- “Scratch” is defined as
starting with raw meat. No marinating is allowed. Commercial chili
powder is permissible, but complete commercial chili mixes are not
permitted.
- We will provide you with one
table set up under a tent or shelter (no electricity or water at
your station). You must provide all cooking tools, utensils, and
ingredients.
- Please prepare a minimum to 2
gallons of chili – 3 to 5 gallons if you can. This is a
fund-raiser; we make most of our money by selling samples of your
chili to the brave passers-by.
- The site will open for set-up
at 11 am. A cook’s meeting will be held at 2 pm. All chili must be
ready at 4:45 pm when the judging will begin.
- Samples of chili will be for
sale to the public starting immediately after the parade.
- No fillers other than beans
will be allowed. Fillers are defined as potatoes, macaroni, all
other pastas, rice or similar ingredients.
- Once chili is turned in for
judging, contestants can serve chili to the public with toppings,
fillings, etc. as they choose.
